The Republic of Congo has an honorary consulate in Cotonou. It’s a bit away from the city centre but the 10kms cost me 600cfa on a zemidjan.
They ask for passport photocopy (there is a place to do it on a street parallel to where the consulate is), one passport photo and hotel booking. A one-month-visa is 40,000cfa, double entry. It’s possible to get a 15-day-visa for 30,000cfa. My visa expires a month after my indicated day of entry.
The consulate is open only on Monday and Friday.
It wasn’t very straightforward though to get the visa, despite the reports saying otherwise. I applied on Friday. First, the man who took my papers said I should collect it on Monday. When I asked if it would be possible to do it the same day, he said there were too many files to process. I was the only one in the consulate. I nevertheless waited. The man approached me and openly asked for a cadeau (gift) to make the same day visa happen. !!! And I declined. Politely. I said I’m alone, it’s not easy to travel, I’d rather not pay. And I still waited. The man chatted with me a bit. And after another 20 minutes he came back with my visa.
